RINGLER - Edward J.
Age 81, former Chief of Police of the City of Tonawanda Police Department, died July 1, 2018, at Kenmore Mercy Hospital. Husband of 52 years to Mary Lou (nee Kowalik) Ringler who died in 2010; father of Dale (Mary), Dean (Nancy) and Dennis (Terri) Ringler, Denise (Todd) Carlson and Dawn (Don) Chatten; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; son of the late Edward and Hazel (nee Licht) Ringler and brother of Robert (Kathy), James (Judy) and David (Judy) Ringler. Also many nieces and nephews. Chief Ringler began his career with the City of Tonawanda Police Department as a Patrolman in 1965. He became Captain in 1973 and was appointed Chief of Police in 1983, a position he held until his retirement in 1997. Edward was a 1955 graduate of Tonawanda High School. He received his Police Science Degree from Erie Community College in 1968 and also his Bachelor of Science Degree from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1972. He was a member of Gastown Sportsmen Club, the Eldredge Bicycle Club and Amvets Post. Calling hours will be held on Thursday (July 5) from 4-8 PM at JOHN O. ROTH FUNERAL HOME, INC., 25 William St. (between Morgan and Broad Sts.), in Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday (July 6) in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 150 Broad St., in Tonawanda. Everyone welcome. Please assemble at the church. Entombment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined.
