Obituary

Celeste Crawford, a former resident of Wilson, NY, passed away at age 86 at Millard Fillmore Suburban hospital on September 2, 2021. She was the daughter of Walter and Adeline Crawford of Tonawanda, N.Y. Celeste was born in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, but spent her young years in Tonawanda where she graduated from Kibler High School in 1952. Guided by her love of reading, she then attended the University of Buffalo where she earned a B.A. degree in English. Anxious to "turn on" students to reading, she also earned a Master's Degree in Library Science from Geneseo State College.  Celeste spent over forty years as a grade school librarian between Binghamton and Wilson, NY. She was a long-term member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Wilson Historical Society. After retirement, she became a master at crocheting and knitting and even built a working grandfather clock for herself. She also enjoyed traveling with family members to as far away as England and Australia She is predeceased by a sister Evadna Crawford of Tonawanda, NY. She is survived by her brother Duane Crawford of Tonawanda, and a sister Adele Crawford Pillitteri of Clovis, CA, plus four nieces and nephews, seven grand nieces and nephews, and one great grand-nephew.  She will be remembered as a loving sister and aunt who always had a book in her hands.  No memorial service is scheduled at this time.  Condolences may be shared at www.ROTHFUNERAL.com
