Marjorie "Marty" T. (Towson) Gingell Obituary

Gingell, Marjorie Towson "Marty" Oct 16, 1944 - Jan 6, 2025 Age 80. Of Buffalo and Chautauqua, NY. Died on Monday, January 6, 2025. Born to Paul H. and Marjorie F. Towson on October 16, 1944 in Baltimore, MD, she was raised in Baltimore and Frederick, MD and became a radiology technologist at the University of Maryland Hospital where she met the love of her life, Robert Gingell, MD. Married for 49 wonderful years, they lived their early married years in California and Baltimore where their three daughters were born. They moved to Buffalo in 1974, discovered Chautauqua in 1988 and spent weekends and summers there ever since. Marty was active in the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York, the Junior League of Buffalo, and the Episcopal Chapel of the Good Shepherd at the Chautauqua Institution. She served as President of the Chautauqua Bird, Tree, and Garden club from 2000-2004. In this role, she introduced us to BTG mushroom sandwiches which we soon found addictive. She was also a very proud graduate of the 1992 CLSC class ("Read a book, read a book, now, now now!"). She was the most positive person we knew-seeing something good in just about everything-a lesson we take with us forever. A life-long, avid bridge player, she also routinely crushed us in Scrabble and loved Mahjong marathons. None of us will play these games without wishing she were at the table. Her house in Chautauqua was welcoming to everyone, always bustling with family and friends and offers of muddled old fashioneds or, if lucky, ice cream with her best-on-the-planet hot fudge sauce. She was predeceased by her sister, Beth (1997), her husband (2014), and tragically her eldest grandson, Robert (Bob) McDonald (2024). She is survived by her daughters Beth (Fred) Epstein, Loring McDonald (Dan Day, partner), and Robbin (Vince) Zaleski; grandchildren Robin (Eric Martin), Daniel, Jay, William, Nathan, Craig, and Eve; Bob McDonald's wife, Kelly; and great-grandchildren Jamison, Connor, Wesley, and Graham; as well as 2 very dear brothers-in-law, James Gingell and Gary Kemp, their families and a host of fabulous friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Monday, January 13th at 11:00 AM at Calvary Episcopal Church, 20 Milton Street in Williamsville. The Reverend Dr. Robert Harvey will officiate. A private inurnment will be in The Episcopal Chapel of the Good Shepherd in Chautauqua, NY at a later date. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Chautauqua Bird, Tree, and Garden Club (chautauquabtg.org/donate), the Episcopal Chapel of the Good Shepherd (episcopalchautauquachapel.com/giving/) or the Diocese of Western New York and Western Pennsylvania (espiscopalpartnership.org/donate-online/).
