Opoka, Michael J., 75, of the City of Tonawanda, passed away peacefully at home on April 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, following a brief battle with cancer. Born on September 14, 1950, in Buffalo, NY, Michael was the loving husband of 50 years to Patricia (née Ecolino) and a devoted father to Michael (Jennifer) and Jeffrey (Michelle). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Griffin, Grayson, Evelyn, Henry, and Lucy, who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his brother, Bernard (late Kim), as well as his niece, Ashley, and nephew, Robert. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Florence. He was a 1968 graduate of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and honorably served his country as a member of the United States Air Force Reserve from 1970 to 1976.Michael found his greatest happiness in life’s simple moments—cheering on his grandsons' at baseball games and attending his granddaughters’ dance recitals. He was a loyal fan who never missed watching a Buffalo Bills or New York Yankees game. He cherished time spent with his brother and enjoyed meeting his buddies for coffee. He and his wife shared a love of estate and garage sale treasure hunting. If you asked Mike, he could always tell you the best spot for a hot dog, roast beef, or fish fry. Visitation will be held from 4–7 PM on Sunday, April 12, at John O. Roth Funeral Home, Inc., 25 Williams St., Tonawanda, NY 14150. A private funeral will be held by the family.
